Not So "Cute Nang Ina Mo"

This film is the worst way "Filipino Comedy" is depicted. Although, Ai-ai DeLas Alas was (sometimes) quite enjoyable to watch and her performance was on the verge of satisfactory, her English is still very elementary. It is really getting very, very annoying (For God's sake! I have an eight-year old cousin who is more fluent in English than her). Mixing English with a Filipino accent is like speaking gibberish and at which I do not consider funny. Also what the hell is up?! with her ridiculous costumes, I have to say one of the failures of this movie was the costume designs.

Anne Curtis's performance was a complete and utter failure. It was as if she wasn't acting, she already is a BRAT and a "spoiled" one for that matter, shouldn't she act a role that's very different from her personality.?! She should also stop speaking English and try and speak the "native language" (Tagalog), this is a Filipino film for God's Sake! Filipino should explain everything, is she BLIND?! or can't she just READ! I'm gonna say it again "Filipino Film!"

Luis Manzano, on the other hand was O.K and he's performance gave me quite a few laughs. But he should really stop taking COMEDY roles or stop taking ANY roles! When he does his "Model-With-Pout-Look" it does not look to "Die For" and/or GORGEOUS! Anne Curtis was FORCED to look AMAZED with his not-so Handsome Face.

In one of the scenes where Anne Curtis was watching Luis Manzano take a bath. This was an inappropriate scene to show younger viewers. Do they not know what PG-rated is. God! what is wrong with this people!

This movie is a failure to the Philippine Entertainment! It's like watching a person High on DRUGS, bumping on a post and just keep repeating it.

You are never to old to life your dreams

I had seen this movie in a preview and was really surprised. I had never expected, that the Switzerland make good movies.

The eighty years old Martha is sad and don't want to life anymore as her husband died. She decided to open a lingerie-boutique (a dream she gave up as she had married her husband) in her small village in Switzerland. The problem is, that her son is the vicar of the village. But with her friends she fights against the resistance.

A really really funny movie.

When you see it you know: The oldest are the goldest!!!

An absolutely feel good movie!

Formula 51 (as it's also known) rocks!

What do you get when you put Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Carlyle, Meatloaf, Rhys Ifans, and Emily Mortimer together in a movie? A rollicking good time! This movie is pure entertainment and has some very, very funny moments. The dialogue is mostly tongue-in-cheek and snappy. The soundtrack is excellent (this coming from someone who doesn't really like techno, club, rap, or hip-hop music), and I would definitely buy this movie to watch again. It may not be for everyone, but the cast is first-rate; the story line believable, and seeing Samuel L. Jackson in a kilt couldn't be beat! I give this movie a 9 out of 10. It's not Academy Award material, but who cares!

More France than Woody Allen

It has been called a comedy in his spirit. It isn't. Surely the people here are neurotic, but much more than they are in an Allen movie. And they lack his humour.

Marcelline is the actress who goes Turgenyev. In her private life, she desperately wants a child. She's 40 now. This neurosis together with the part she's acting, almost destroys her. She doesn't know who she is anymore.

Review :

Truly awful

First, Brendan Fraser is an actor who I really enjoy watching no matter what he's in. Second, I was hoping he would do another mummy movie - I like him in these campy action movies so I was looking forward to this movie. Now I wish he had turned this one down as Rachel did, I wouldn't have wasted my money. And I have a high tolerance for so-so movies. I felt so bad for Fraser, he was trying - but you can only do so much with a crappy script and poor direction.

Pros: Very good special effects. Jet-Li, Yeoh had good fight scenes.

Cons: Forced dialogue, Maria Bello trying too hard, No chemistry between Fraser-Bello-Ford (the son). Music either too much or just not a good fit, I found it overwhelming the scenes at times.

Everything comes across as trying too hard. I miss the Sommers touch. I just didn't have any fun this time. Seriuosly, wait for it to come to cable.

Great romantic comedy, the best I've seen in a while!

There are no words to describe this movie. I found it hillarious and heartwarming. The two principle actors were great as their roles as Ben and Andie. Kate Hudson was great at driving Ben nuts. I laughed for days.

I loved the soundtrack too. It had classics and modern day classics.

I feel this movie will go down as a classic with such films as Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing.

Hannah Takes the Fall

I admit I am not a Woody Allen fan, and I'm sure I'm not the only one out there that feels that way. But his movies have been consistently made for decades. Obviously someone has a thing for him to continuously produce and distribute his versions of comedy and life. So be it. Unfortunately, it's happening again with this group of self-proclaimed, non-actor nobodies, Mark Duplass, Joe Swanberg, etc. How anyone continues to release their "thoughts, ideas and everyday life shots" is beyond me. But, I guess, to each his/her own. I've now seen three of them: 'Baghead' seems to be the best of the bunch. Then the soft-porn excuse: 'Kissing on the Mouth.' And now, 'Hannah Takes the Stairs,' the worst of the three. That's saying a lot, considering 'Kissing' wasn't any good either. But, here we have even less acting, less plot, more face-close ups and more unintentionally hilarious scenes (both appear in the closing, yet another break up where the actors themselves seem to have a hard time from cracking up, it was so unreal. And a naked bath/trumpet scene – really?) Once again in these so-called "Mumblecore" films finds reasons to take women's clothes off for full-frontal nudity (along with the occasional full-frontal male shot, I guess for good measure/balance) and film EVERYTHING in sight. What makes me laugh in these movies is the extras – where they actually have deleted scenes. Seriously? Something was left out? The basic, and I mean they (no joke) had no script, synopsis is a terrible person (Hannah) who "doesn't know" herself/path (you'll hear that a lot) so she uses men and crushes them to "find" herself. Unfortunately, the actors' desire to "not act" in these films pays off and you get no emotion or creditability when she consistently breaks up with men. Advice: Show/Don't Tell.

Better Housekeeping FUNNY CULT FLICK

This is one of those films that folks either love or hate. This seems to be as true for the public as the critics, and opinions are heated. It is is either the worst film you've ever seen, with lousy acting, a preposterous plot and humor you find insulting, or it is one of the funniest films you've ever seen, with terrific writing, casting and acting. Variety raved, Roger Ebert gave it a thumbs up, and the folks at Slamdance awarded it the Grand Jury Prize in 2000. Yet, this film has gone nowhere, and has been excoriated by the local press following its limited forays into the urban art house circuit. It has been described as shrill, loud, difficult to watch, disturbing, and even obnoxious by some, and brilliant, funny, and engaging by others. I loved this film, and laughed so hard that I had to see it a second time to get the lines that I hadn't heard over my own hysteria. Although his portrayal of working class life has been criticized as cruel, as a white trash girl, I think he absolutely nailed it and I would be very surprised to learn that the director had no personal knowledge of the lifestyles he portrayed. For a low budget indie film, the production values are quite high, the art direction fabulous, and the acting ferociously good. These folks dive into their roles like it is the last part they will ever get, and in retrospect, it may have been.
