Shirley Anne Field plays a schizophrenic
This is the sort of charming little film about the innocence of young love that couldn't be made today without copious love scenes to lure the 'punters' in.
It's also the type of film that nobody ever sees unless, like me, you scour the TV listings for obscure items and curios that are normally shown in the early hours of the morning, as this was, when the sort of innocent people that are portrayed in this film (if they still exist) are tucked up in bed and have been asleep for a good few hours.
This is the story of a young man and woman (Robert Stephens and Shirley Anne Field) who meet at the factory where they work and fall in love. Stephens plays an executive which is a job title that clearly flatters his position and Field plays an artist who having recently left art school paints flowers seemingly all day.
The short time they spend alone together is during lunch hours where they are constantly frustrated in their attempts to have a kiss and a cuddle. Stephens' character attempts to solve this problem by booking a hotel room and attempting to avoid suspicion by telling the landlady an assortment of lies. These include Field being his wife who has come down from the North with the kids (who will be looked after by an imaginary aunt) to discuss something very important.
Why he didn't book the same hotel room and use it overnight so they can really get down to the business at hand is never explained.
This is where the film goes really weird and Field's character starts to imagine the whole lie is actually true and visualises having to dealing with noisy crying kids and all the hassle that goes with it. Maybe this is her scary vision of the pressures of marriage and motherhood that will arise if she hangs around this executive chap much longer. Whatever the reason she comes across as an unhinged psycho who Stephens would do well to steer clear of.
It seems such a shame that Field's character goes from a lovely girl with whom any young man would want to spend their lunch hour to a hallucinating crackpot who probably belongs in a straitjacket. Then again you never truly know your beloved until you have spent an hour together in a grubby little hotel room.

Naive but entertaining.
Those were the days when Mexican cinema could mix horror and comedy in a delightful manner. Starring the great and only "Tin-Tan" and "Loco Valdèz" (brothers in real life), this movie is filled with naive humor and cheesy lines.
The settings are actually pretty good! In a scene it's even spoofed the famous Frankenstein monster birth. Also, the lab is very well done! The black and white cinematography adds a special feeling to the movie; because it might be old, but it's entertaining. Don't expect horror or scary scenes, in fact, you should expect a family movie with funny scenes. Even that a cat is thrown into a liquid experiment and drowns. Even that scene is naive. Great f/x by the way! Specially when Tin-Tan runs in a skull outfit. Aww. The scene deserves it's credit.
Tin Tan and Loco steal the show with their comical performances. Give it a try if you appreciate Mèxico's golden era in cinema. This is the typical family movie with adventure situations and silly jokes.

Enchanting
I just watched this film and I was absolutely enchanted. I should mention that I am not an Indian, not have I watched very many Indian films. Sampoorna Ramayana is technically simplistic and sometimes naïve (from the 2009 Hollywood point of view), but a visual delight and an inspired introduction into this chapter of Indian mythology. The musical episodes are excellent, and some are simply unforgettable (e. g. the story of god Kama – the dancing is mesmerizing - or Ram's song for Seeta or Surpankha's song or the song by the two Seeta's sons). Several episodes had an enormous element of surprise and awe for me (not to give too much away I would mention Hanuman's interrogation and Ravan's monologue among others). Speaking of actors I'd like to stress their striking looks which were quite fitting for a magical story of divine adventures. To sum it up – the film should not be judged by the modern standards but rather it should be evaluated from the point of view of its own artistic universe. Sampoorna Ramayana is ambitious and beautiful (if too long at the beginning) and a must for anyone interested in India.

On his birthday, wealthy Bombay-based Manmohan, whose father, Shamnarain, is overseas, finds out that he does not have any real friends. Disillusioned, he returns home, and that night overpowers a burglar, Sudesh. He decides to not call the police on the condition that he lets him live in the slums, to which Sudesh agrees, and takes him to a shanty Chawl. The next day, Manmohan, who now calls himself Shyam, meets Sudesh' sister, Shyama, and both are attracted to each other. He then sub-lets a room from a dweller, known as Mausi, and starts to sell ice-cream on the streets as a living. He indirectly uses his wealth and influence to help some of the impoverished residents. He then proposes to Shyama and she accepts - and it is this acceptance that will soon pit him not only against his snobbish and enraged father - but also against Sudesh as well as a much-feared gangster, Ranvir, who wants to wed Shyama at any and all costs.

This movie starring Dev Anand and Mala Sinha is quite like the black and white classic ASLI NAQLI starring Sadhana and also Dev Anand which had the classic Rafi song EK BOOTH BANAUNGA AUR POOJA KAROONGA. The story revolves around Dev Anand who is a very rich man and gets disappointed by his wealth and goes to live in a poor neighboorhood masquerading as a poor man. Here he meets a poor girl (Mala Sinha instead of Sadhana) and they fall in love. Though this movie has some great songs like Zindagi hai Kya Sun Meri Jaan, Koi Sone Ki Dil Wala and Jaa Re Udhja Re Panchhi the other movie ASLI NAQLI was 10 times better probably because the movie was directed by the maestro HRISHIKESH MUKHERJEE the maker f classics like Anand, Namak Halaal (the only 2 movies starring Amitabh and Rajesh Khanna), Abhimaan, Milli, Musafir, Bawarchi, Bemisaal and many many more. Still worth a watch. watch out for a very very young Amjad Khan in the end of the movie (he was barely 12 years old in a scene with his real life father Jayant.
