When Preto is fired from his job, he becomes a criminal and moves to a hideout. Meanwhile, Zé has an affair with photographer Débora, but he does not forget Branca. During the Carnival, Zé sees Branca with Miguel and he kidnaps the girl, and the result is tragic.

Messy, but Very Nostalgic

"Aventuras de um Paraíba" is a messy, but very nostalgic film. The story has comedy, romance, drama, crime and politics and is corny and confused. But there are many external shots and the viewer has the chance to revisit Rio de Janeiro in the early 80's, Flamengo soccer team one year after winning Liverpool and the World Soccer Championship in Tokyo; the Brazilian entertainer Chacrinha; Carnival at Av. President Vargas and the Red and Black Ball; Copacabana beach. My vote is six.

Uplifting romantic comedy with outstanding, poignant music. Review by Darren Phillips.
I saw this movie nearly 20 years ago as part of a Channel 4 season of dramas & recall being impressed by BA Robertsons' acting ability, and Judi Trotts' musical work. I actually tape recorded the songs late into the film, as I was really enjoying them! (sadly I only have 3 and I cannot find it on sale or in any private collections, which saddens me). I was 15.
There is a "Living apart together" on sale but it's a Dutch adult movie starring Sylvia Kristel, not a romantic musical comedy.
A realistic tale of, as I recall, a couple called Richey & Amy (Barbara Kellerman) who split up due to differences in character. Richey is a very talented, eccentric, but overall irresponsible husband, who you can't help but love. Amy is a romantic, beautiful, all-woman "English rose".
Richey has an affair with Judi Trotts' character, experiencing his "grass on the other side" and the two indulge in a "Baker Dr. Who/ Romana II" mad week, involving a number of well-written songs (created for the movie by Robertson & utilising the talents of himself, Trott, and, very memorably, the incredible Carol Kenyon, known for her work on the Heaven 17 track "Temptation".
The movie does have a happy ending, and gave this 15 year old a good look at modern relationships. A film I have wanted for AGES!
Moresoe as it features a very young Peter Capaldi!

cerebral meltdown
This thoroughly uncategorizable whatever-the-hell-it-is is far and away one of the most aberrant gonzo visions ever committed to celluloid(with a few shot-on-video nudity inserts). Seriously...this one will leave your head spinning for days, if not months...
The conspectus of this flippantly engendered zero-budget wonder involves a rat-pack of female criminals who abduct a couple of lowly Death Valley bug farmers(!), and forcibly enlist their aid in a plot to snare a suitcase full of plutoni...uh...PLATINUM... from a rival organized crime syndicate. The film brings down the curtain with a scene paying light homage to the 50s noir classic KISS ME DEADLY.
The deranged impetus of RUNAWAY NIGHTMARE is largely propelled by dallying shots of women posing seductively with an assortment of weapons. Considering the noticeably unfurnished nature of this conception, I suspect it was predominantly formulated as fetishistic fodder piloted at guys with a blaze in their pants for armed-and-dangerous females. Hey...sign me up. What's hotter than a chick with a gun?
Nothing...I mean NOTHING the likes of RUNAWAY NIGHTMARE has ever crossed my path...an ass-backward oddity with enough catawampus appeal to merit a small cult following. Featured castmember Georgia Durante, a noted model, gangster's moll and stuntwoman, later published her disturbing memoirs in a marvelous book(called THE COMPANY SHE KEEPS), which is every bit as bizarre as this film.

Ah, the time-honored, ancient art of Chinese Blackface!
I came across this "film" in/on a DVD 8-pack, $5.00 for the lot of 'em, and STILL feel ripped off!!!
I am an ardent fan of WIPs (Women-In-Prison; -Peril) and an occasional fan of Hong Kong Schlock (Best In Show: "ROBO VAMPIRE" or maybe "SAMURAI REINCARNATION") but i'm sorry: This thing is simply insufferable! A useful review and/or commentary? Well, no, absolutely not... I just needed to get this little something off my chest! As for the remaining product, well, I only bought the first disc (used) with the following titles: "Raw Force" "Savage Man: Savage Beast"(Not half-bad Mondo Movie) "Women's Camp 119" (AKA: "SS Extermination Camp" & KZ9-Lager di Sterminio") etc. OH wait: I DID get the 2nd disc with it, but all of its contents were execrable!

Honest and dedicated Police Inspector Kumar Chandra Singh intercepts a bank robbery, and is in the process of arresting the bank robbers, when he himself becomes a suspect, and is apprehended with a suitcase containing some of the cash stolen from that bank. Kumar is stripped of his powers as a policeman; is arrested; tried in court; and sentenced to prison. As a result of his arrest, his mother dies of shock and disbelief. He is crippled in an accident, and must use the help of crutches to walk. When he is released from prison, he has only one goal in his life - to find the culprits responsible for his ruin, and humiliation. And for this he finds support in Kamini, Sonia, Sunita, and Shanker Dada, little knowing that one of these women was herself involved in getting his arrested.

Charlie's Angelic Homage
Within three seconds of the start of the movie, there is an explosion followed by an engaging car chase. That alone is enough for any fan of action to start enjoying this movie.
The script starts off very sharp, blending character building with progressive, thrilling, action sequences.
Big cast, but they are given time to be introduced into the story fittingly. And Rajesh Khanna is well placed in the starring role, shorn of his usual romantic overtones, he capably explores the role of a morally guided man on a mission.
Amrish Puri demonstrates why he is a Legend. He is not just a moustache-twirling, pantomime villain, there is depth to his character of a man corrupted by his ego.
Shabana Azmi is a real draw here because she brings a sensitive vulnerability to her character which is kind of wasted in an action movie like this.
Unfortunately, the movie starts to drag around halfway, with dumb plot vehicles and dumber acting. Maybe the production was hampered, but somehow it's as if the second half was the work of a different director than of the first half.
But then Amrish Puri comes back and salvages thing to an extent. Good thing that PETA didn't see this movie, Puri can be seen getting rather freaky with a snake in a very disturbing scene.
There's lot of good comedy set-ups, some intentional, thanks to Mithun and the divine Parveen Babi. And some unintentional, such as characters' names changing randomly (Kader becomes Ader, Shalini becomes Kamini), Rajesh Khanna's William Shatner-like delivery, the mother characters' aptitude for mortality, atrociously bad acting from the actor playing "Kader", male stunt doubles for women, bad foley effects such as a person imitating the barking of a dog, and most of all, Shabana Azmi looking embarrassingly cute when her character's meant to be taken seriously.
The ending is nonsensically convoluted, but ties things up... probably.
The first few songs are a bit of a nuisance, especially having to endure watching Zeenat Aman flipping around like a deranged, yodelling circus acrobat. But the later songs are enjoyable thanks to Babi, Mithun, more consistent music and the rest.
Overall, it's worth a watch for fans of the stars featuring here, especially the wonderful Shabana Azmi, but not much else to recommend it.
