Action packed and intelligent techno-thriller

This movie was recently released on dvd in England by Hong Kong Legends. I had seen the movie before on VCD but I can say without reservation that HKL have done a great job with it's debut on DVD.

For fans of Hong Kong action cinema or viewers bored by the usual brainless Hollywood shoot-em-ups this film should make for a good evenings entertainment.

Strong submarine film from Korea

I have seen lots of submarine films and this is one of the best (after Das Boot and The Hunt for Red October). Very much similar to Crimson Tide, not quite as sophisticated but even more powerful. Tension is strong and unlike in Hollywood films, you really can't be sure what happens in the end until you see it.

The Phantom Submarine is so top secret that it's crew has been assembled from people that are officially dead, even their relatives don't know that they are still alive. Nice idea that could have been explored bit further, but there's limits what can be shown in two hours.

A good one if you like action movies.

This is a good movie if you like action films, since it's full of action and suspense and it also has excellent special effects. What makes it wonderful is that the apple of my eye, the gorgeous and great Diego Torres stars in it together with a very group of Argentinian actors. Emotional movie, perfect for all family members

Manuelita is a proof of animated Disney movies aren't the only good ones, with such a sweet story about a little turtle who wants to fly and travel the world, this film will surprise you with the lovely songs, characters, scenarios, and an atmosphere of tenderness that leaves a pleasant sensation. In every way, this is a recommended movie for all audiences and the little ones love it. last attempt of Nicolaescu on epic cinema

This is the last attempt of Nicolaescu on epic cinema. Since then, we've seen "Orient Express" and "15", two minor films more concerned with Sergiu's personal obsessions than with real, big-time cinema. "Triunghiul ..." took almost three years to complete, and the effort shows. A lot of the action takes place outdoors. The locations are spectacular, and so are the battle sequences. A 70 year-old Sergiu shows that he is still able to direct hundreds of live- action extras on a plausible World-War I battlefield. Ilinca Goia is the best presence in this film. The young actress' portrayal of Ecaterina Teodoroiu haunts us after the tragic end of the picture. Radu Banzaru makes, also, a remarkable debut in this film, impersonating a famous German aviator.

edge of your seat thriller?

A combination of Hitchcock suspense and Hong Kong violence best describes Ringo Lam's directing style. This hybrid respresents a difficult task because the film must retain qualities of both genres to succeed. In films such as Full Alert and even Maximum Risk with Jean Claude Van Damme, Lam can create an action joyride with climatic thrills without losing a touch of either genre. This formula fails in Victim. In addition to combining suspense and violence, Lam decides to add the presence of the supernatural. Although Hitchcock has managed excellence with this hybrid, Lam fails because of the consistency of maintaining the unknown throughout the film. In the first half of the film,Lam creates such a spooky environment that we can actually believe there exists a supernatural essence. However, the second half of the film basically abandons this concept. The main character switches from insanity to sanity between scenes in such an awkward manner that Victim loses its credibility in establishing the possibility of ghostly possession. Changing of setting in the second half also causes Victim to lose its supernatural influence. With the exception of the ending, the second half bases itself entirely in the daytime compared to the evening/night for the first half. In fact, the scenes for the nightime setting occured in scary places such as an abandoned hotel and a lonely road/highway. The film's abrupt ending further aggravates the flow of this film. Victim could have been an excellent thriller if Lam maintained the sense of the supernatural by maintaining the consistency of his main character's behavior and a sense of supernatural influence for each scene. Instead, he leaves us with a Hitchcock-wannabe that would not satisfy even the most dedicated thriller fan.

That's the rating this film has received so far?! I guess this really is a love-it-or-hate-it film; but I watched it twice in two nights without the benefit of English subtitles, that should tell you something. Even without understandable dialogue it's funny, exciting, and even a bit challenging. It's nice to see a film with artistic merit that isn't afraid to be entertaining. The film's unusual fight scenes are really something to see; at times it appears that the director just let the actors fight while the camera ran, sometimes for up to a minute at a time without any cuts. I can't recommend it enough. I imagine being able to understand it could only be an improvement.

Sanjay Dutt's reality show.

The talented Mahesh Manjrekar directs his second feature which centres around the character of a simple guy whose attempts to lead a normal life fail and as a result he becomes a merciless underworld don. Manjrekar's direction is excellent and he successfully depicts the dark tone of the crime world. He offers a grim look at the underworld and not even once does he try to glorify it or show it in a positive light. On the contrary, through the main character he shows how restless those who get involved in it are. The film, though a bit unevenly executed at places, generally remains steadily focused, and the proceedings are raw and serious, without useless attempts at comedy and unnecessary subplots one gets to see so much in Hindi films. Many of the film's scenes are extremely moving.

For the demanding role of Raghunath, Manjrekar casts Sanjay Dutt, one of the industry's most respected and loved stars, yet one of its most underrated actors. Dutt is simply exceptional, portraying every shade of his character with sheer conviction. He actually becomes Raghunath and manages to create a real new screen persona with his line delivery, body language and his often frighteningly serene attitude. This is one of his absolute best. Other cast members do a very good job, with Reema Lagoo delivering the most memorable performance of the lot as Raghu's tormented yet loving mother. Sanjay Narvekar is quite effective as his best friend, while Namrata Shirodkar does a fine job as Sonu, a young prostitute with whom he falls in love.

Vaastav is not without its flaws. I, for one, found Raghunath's transformation far too quick to be completely believable. The film, though generally gritty, intense and matter-of-fact, gets at times a bit too emotional and consequently the level of its authenticity is thus reduced by a iota. Nonetheless, the film's final scenes are powerful and riveting and the very last scene is fantastic. Do watch Vaastav, mainly to see Sanjay Dutt's performance.

strong performance by manoj bajpai

Shool is an excellent crime drama about corruption and murky politics in India. This plot isn't anything new, but what makes the movie work is the mind-blowing performance of Manoj Bajpai as an honest cop trying to do his job in a corrupt environment. With his work in this film, Bajpai has proven himself as a great character actor, at par with another cinema great, Shah Rukh Khan. Both these actors have proven that you don't need good looks to make good movies.

Aside from Bajpai, Shool is filled with wonderful performances, such as the de-glamorized Raveena Tandon's heart-breaking portrayal the police officer's wife, and Sayaji Shinde's genuinely scary villain!

A mature film intended for a mature audience, Shool is a film that shouldn't be missed by anyone looking for quality in the otherwise lackluster world of Indian cinema!

An awesome movie

The movie is an excellent movie , one of the best dynamic movies of Shankar. It is the movie which clearly explains how politics should be and what sort of people should come to politics. The way in which Arjun traps raguvaran in the movie will take u to the real thrill. The steps that he takes after getting into the post as a single day CM(which is an entirely new concept.. hats off to Shankar) are really great and makes us think how good it will be if its the reality. Though, Manisha koirala will not play an important role in the movie, her role will be important in songs. Vadivelu's acting and comedy with 'Poda Panni' will make everyone laugh. In total, one of the best movies credited for Direction Skills!!

Sneham Kosam scores 10 out of 10 for its emotions. I will rate Film as a whole giving it 9 points out of 10. This may be a exaggeration for some of them reading this article but it is true that this movie will bring tears in your eyes at least once while you watch the movie.If you are a stone hearted person surely this movie is not for you.Movie Showcases the bonded friendship which has to been on the screen.

The movie starts off well with sensible comedy and will engross you in the last hour of the movie. The Director and Chiranjeevi will make you feel that it is worth watching the movie for emotions expressed. If you have seen Chiranjeevi in Mass movies and think he cannot do sentiment effectively then you are in a wrong side of the boat. Go watch this movie and you will accept Chiranjeevi as an universal actor who can do all the Nava rasas in the acting. Director Ravi kumar has taken keen care not to dilute the effect on the screen. Kudos to Ravikumar too.....

I would illustrate you with an live example of the Power of Chiru. My Dad who had seen few Chiranjeevi movies had opinions that Chiru is good at only Dance and fights until he watched Sneham kosam. A warm "sleeper" about a widower struggling to raise a little girl

This is the rare golden nugget found while panning through 150 channel steams of cable TV. No mega stars, no explosions, no big budget. It wasn't at the multiplex and it wasn't a hot topic around the water cooler.

A 30 something auto mechanic in Columbus, Ohio is struggling to raise his 9 year old daughter several years after losing his wife in a car accident. A local legend for his baseball prowess he is struggling to tone down his macho ways to be both father and mother to his daughter.

His daughter is everything to him and his sacrifice of a promising minor league career with the Yankee Triple A Columbus Clippers to be there for her shows his priorities are in order.

A somewhat older next door spinster aching for love and family offers to provide the daughter with the lacking feminine touches. The contest between the father and the neighbor pit nice people against each other trying to help a 9 year old girl.

The neighbor picks up the slack taking care of the daughter, giving dad another shot at baseball and slowly awakening to the interest of a pretty divorced mom who idolized him in high school.

The slow evolution of father, daughter, neighbor supported by a small but significant cast and the script's warmth without wallowing make this movie work on several levels.

A Heart Warming Movie with a Message

Sathyan Anthikkadu's films are always simple, candid and humorous. Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal (Again Some Family Affairs) is no exception. This movie was a box office hit, but underrated by its simplicity. This is the story of Kochu Thomman (Thilakan), an aristocratic Christian who has a warm heart and love for everything, especially to his younger son Roy (Jayaram). When his son boldly marry a Hindu girl of lower cast, it changes everything. Director Satyan Anthikkadu is famous for his satire-like comedies, but this one is not exactly a comedy but an heart-warming, inspirational drama with a brilliant climax. It's more or less, an equivalent to Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I would say, it's the magnum opus for both Thilakan, Jayaram, Script Writer Lohita Das and Director Satyan Anthikkadu. The performance of Pappu and Oduvil also deserve some commendation.

One more attempt at lame humor

Once again we are presented with yet another lame excuse for humor. A Muslim singer enters a palace pretending to be a namboodiri (Upper Cast Hindu)and impresses upon the His Majesty, the "Thampuran" and falls in love with his grand daughter. No this is not the review for "His Highness Abdulla" It may sound similar, but it isn't.

The idea of photography, according to the genius who made this film, is to light up the set with flood-lights from all directions. Shadows and dark tones are simply absent throughout the entire film.

The makers of this cinema try hard to make the audience laugh with physical comedy and silly one-liners. The usual cast of clowns (Jagathi, Haneefa, Hari Sri Asokan, Innocent and a few mimicry artistes) are mixed into the potpourri. Malayalam Cinema is heading for troubled waters not due to presence fatty-porn queen Shakeela, but because of sheer lack of talent from script writers and directors. There are a few laughs but not enough to sit till the rather predictable ending.
