Does womanizer finally meet his match?

Some superstars in the film world have such an abundance of personal magnetism that it's difficult for them to find a movie in which they don't overpower the cast and script. With the great Mauricio Garces this is often the case. Taking a look at some of his earlier flicks, "Mujeres, Mujeres, Mujeres"(1967) and "A Nuevo Modo de Amor"(1968) the results only prove fair. But with "El Sinverguenza"(1971) the story is almost as interesting as the star, making for a much more enjoyable viewing. First it must be made clear that this isn't an outright comedy but more of a drama slash light comedy. Mauricio as Roberto poses as a language professor, but is in reality the head of an escort service with over a dozen beautiful women in his employ. He uses his charm in order to acquire more ladies for his firm. The phrase "ladies man" seems to have been made with him in mind. The main plot is not new. With a multitude of females always at his fingertips, can he find just one for himself to settle down with? And will she have the higher standards he expects, as opposed to the ones he is used to? The film at some points can also be seen as a mini travelogue as the outdoor Mexican scenery is not ignored. A highlight of the movie is a dream sequence in which Roberto imagines a courtship through the ages with his new found love Elena(played by Paula Cusi). The wardrobe department worked overtime here! At one point Xochimilco is used most effectively for a romantic boat ride. Comparisons might be made with some of the Rock Hudson-Doris Day films, and in particular Roberto's automated room, complete with out of the wall remote control bed and bar, similar to one seen in "Pillow Talk"(1959). The popular theme song, "Mi Corazon es un Gitano" sung by actress/singer L'Upita D'Alessio(who has over 50 albums to her credit) is used throughout at key moments ala "Do Not Forsake Me..." and "High Noon"(1952). While the story line doesn't blaze any new trails, there is a moral left with the viewer, that is a bit different from most of this ilk and sets it apart as very worthwhile.

Sleazy Romano Scavolini's spy thriller.

Sleazy 1977 Romano Scavolini film which involves spies that assist in torture,rape and murder.An American photographer unwittingly brings footage of torture by the Greek military junta into the USA along with proof of America's involvement in it.He's pursued by inept and heavy handed henchmen leaving a trail of bloody and brutal murders in their wake.Slightly gruesome opening scene shows a man having a large instrument inserted into his penis.The atmosphere is suitably gritty,but "Savage Hunt" is not as disturbingly violent and gory as Scavolini's "Nightmare".The characters are often one-dimensional and the dialogue is funny.7 out of 10.

Laugh Out Loud Funny

I have never met a Meg Ryan Movie that I didn't enjoy. Simply the best movie about making movies that I have seen. This movie is simply hilarious with pretty much NON STOP Hilarity! Another romantic comedy to add to my short list. Meg in You've Got Mail, French Kiss and the highly under-rated Addicted To Love. Macy plays to type. The only criticism I would render is that Jason Ritter could have had more lines and face-time, however when on screen he is a joy to watch. A cross between Val Kilmer and his dad of course, so cute! I have never seen too many movies with scenery from The South of Africa, now on my bucket list to visit. It was honest and showed the poverty mixed directly in with the wealth set with a landscape that only God could have created and only your wildest imagination could dream.

DESPARATELY SEEKING "GAUDI"

Somebody will have to explain to me why this movie hasn't gotten more recognition. It is an absolutely delightful, wacky comedy, easily the best thing Susan Seidelman has done since "Desparately Seeking Susan". Judy Davis is great as usual as the people-avoiding translator who gets involved in a very unique domestic squabble and Marcia Gay Harden, Lili Taylor and Juliette Lewis are wonderful as the dramatis personae in said squabble (which turns out to be much weirder than it first seems). Harden's curvy, campy Frankie is especially memorable. It's a great film that makes strong points about the unpredictable nature of love without preaching and setting it in the Gaudi-designed wonderland of Barcelona makes it even more special. If anybody in America had seen this movie, it would have gotten raves from a lot of film critics. Certainly it's funnier and warmer than 99% of the well-known romantic comedies that have played in the States lately.

Italian low budget jewel

Maybe one of the things we ask in a movie is to give us a good time and this movie definitely does it; when you find yourself laughing you don't ask yourself anything about the budget, the financing or the industry rules. This movie is a miracle, shot on a outrageously low budget, has gained an unexpected and unusual national release (in Italy) due to this simple fact: it is funny. The story deals with everyday hero Carlo Maggi, trying to save the lives of the Pope and those of all the major religious world leaders from the threat brought by Omega, the killer who never fails. Story is a guideline for bizarre encounters and accidents that bring to screen a bunch of some of the most promising and talented italian comedians. Style is a combination of genres, all included, fun is guaranteed, film is simple and naive, "user-friendly", but competent, well directed, with good performances, built around a solidly structured script with a ultra fast editing and a fascinating original score (by MAO). Another travel with Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo

Well, this movie is good and bad. Is good because Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo are really "magic", and they confirm of being able behind the cinema camera. But this film is bad because they use the same plot of the last two movies: three man, a woman, the love, a travel. Now A., G. & G. are the best italian comedians on the big screen, but if they continue to use the same idea, with some modification, they risk truly a lot, they risk the place of "kings of the Christmas italian comedy", stolen to Massimo Boldi and Christian De Sica.

FINAL VOTE: 6 (For the "magic")

Very good movie

Just saw this movie. Had no expectations, or better to say, I was expecting this one to be the most boring and stupid movie they have ever made. One night we were boring at home and decided to go to the cinema and watch this movie, just for fun. For our great surprise, this movie is hilarious! Very funny, very nice, and the story is just like it could happen to anyone. Recommendations! The actors are acting, the funny parts are funny, the story is normal, nothing unusual, or anything that you could stop by and say "hey, that ain't real, fool?!". Everything is just as normal as your everyday life. The funny parts are not those of which you go like boom and laughing your heads off your necks, it's just normally funny, I mean it will make you laugh but also think of the situation, think of the characters' "act" and background of their behavior. I was really impressed to see this movie, and I'm really happy that even today, Czech movies can do better than some of the so called "bestsellers" out there.

Based off of a one time T.V. show, two Los Angeles S.W.A.T. officers Jim Street and Brian Gamble were sent in to foil an extremely violent bank robbery. 'Die Hard' continues to influence to this day...

This movie is no doubt influenced by the 'Die Hard' series. In this case, 1990's 'Die Hard 2' where the plot involved a drug dealer. A drug dealer in this case offers 100 million dollars to anyone who can bust him out after he is captured. Naturally, everyone with a greedy agenda, including some people that really make things sticky for the good guys, try to spring him. This film has a nice gradual build to its eventual payoff and Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson are in good form. I only wish that their characters had been a little better developed. It's nice to see a movie where a character has a particular manner, saying or habit that makes their personality instantly recognizable. This is one of the better films to be based on 70's television. Certainly better than the 'Charlie's Angels' films (rubbish).

Hungarian Hollywood

The central character in this film is Péter, a successful businessman who runs a cynical sort of dating agency called 'S.O.S. Love'. It might better be called a seduction agency. It offers continuous assistance by means of closed-circuit television, microphones, and mobile phones to rich inarticulate men in their 'romantic' approaches to women. There are three plot strands:-

1. Péter faces a commercial challenge from a rival agency called 'All You Need is Love'. Since his 'S.O.S. Love' helps men seduce women, while 'All You Need Is Love' helps women seduce men, it is very hard to see how they can be competitors. Coherence was not a priority for the makers of this film.

2. Péter, despite being a professional seducer by proxy, is himself an unattached widower or divorcé. His little daughter, Bogi, tries to set him up with every woman who strikes her as a desirable stepmother. This strand is played for cuteness.

3. 'S.O.S. Love' has a problem client called Tomi, an obnoxious idiot whose advances to Veronika have been rebuffed. Péter makes a special effort on his behalf by hiring a country mansion for the weekend. Tomi, pretending to be its owner, will invite Veronika to stay, and the staff of the agency will pose as his relatives in order to advance his suit in a variety of situations designed to make him appear attractive.

Despite all this contrivance, the anticipated farce never gets off the ground. Perhaps the funniest aspect of "S.O.S. Szerelem!" is the very crude 'product placement'. I really could not tell whether some of its clichéd romantic scenes (e.g., the slow-motion horse-riding) were meant to be parody or not. There is an intrusive musical score of pop-songs, several of them in English. To be fair, I am not part of the target audience for this film. It is aimed at Hungarians who enjoy Hollywood 'rom-coms' and would welcome their dose of slick sentimentality free of subtitles or dubbing for once. The plot does have a twist, yet the elaborate climactic sequence in the park makes no more sense than the underlying premise (for how does 'S.O.S. Love' know that Mr Kempelen is the man being targeted by 'All You Need Is Love'?).

"S.O.S. Szerelem!" was a box-office hit in its home country. People who wish to argue that post-communist eastern Europe has embraced the crassest forms of Western commercialism will doubtless find much to support their contention in this film. The most positive conclusion I can draw from it is this: Hungary has no need of witless American trash; it is plainly quite capable of producing its own.

Proof that there are treasures in low-budget-land.

Before you know it, you are sucked into this dramedy about a father and son who seemingly have very little in common but, unbeknownst to one another, have fallen for the same girl. Additionally, the supporting players, notably the girl's best friend/business partmer and the son's roommate, are particularly strong, however the big kudos here belong to Kelli Coleman and Michael Bergin for crafting the credible evolution of a modern love story. Kelli is as charming as she is beautiful on screen while Michael is endearing and natural. Mr. Altounian has a clear directing hand and uses his talents well here - his deftness with comedy shows through - some of the shooting/cutting is quite inspired, and though I will not mention anything to spoil it - my favorites include a basketball game scene and an hilarious supermarket scene with a midget and a motorcycle.

Really awesome and funny B (or even C) movie!

My flatmate and I just finished watching this.

We were expecting it to be so stupid it was awful/funny, but the movie was so purposely awful, it was amazingly awesome.

We're both really impressed with your creative imagination, and the appallingly intentional stupidity of this movie, well done :D Anyone that says this movie isn't a good movie, obviously misses the entire point. ITS NOT MEANT TO BE GOOD, HAVE BELIEVABLE CHARACTERS, OR A REALISTIC PLOT! Well done, and that was one of the funniest movies i've watched in a long time, way better then any big Hollywood movie in the last 5 years!
