Jack Neo's dig on government bureaucracy
"Just Follow Law" is probably Jack Neo's funniest movie and Neo's best film since "The Best Bet". It essentially is a satirical comedy on Singapore bureaucratic agencies and takes place in a fictitious government department where office politics is rife and everything must be prim and proper in its correct place, only for the record. However, in reality, the department is very inefficient, with blue-collared workers like the Gurmit Singh character loafing every day, and with everyone trying their best not to work full time.
Things take a comedic turn when the Gurmit Singh and Fann Wong characters swap souls: he becomes a she and she becomes a he. And all these are played for laughs as they two, sworn enemies, join forces for a project.
The movie takes a few clichés and lets work them a bit more, but what makes this film stand out is the way Neo digs at the current PAP government, citing them as efficient but unlikeable (like the Fann Wong character). But such satires are hidden in laughs, so the government is more apt to take it apolitically.
The comedy sadly proves to contravene the satirical arguments, and some parts of it remain cheaply and shoddily shot.
All in all, worth watching if you are a Jack Neo fan, even if Neo's heart isn't 100% in it like in "I Not Stupid".
